Assault by bouncer at well known bar in Hoboken.

Today, Pagliara Law Group, P.A. filed a thirteen count lawsuit against a long standing bar in Hoboken New Jersey, The Shannon for a bouncer allegedly assaulting one of its patrons outside in DOCKET NO:  HUD-L-004404-25 in Hudson County New Jersey Superior Court Law Division. The complaint filed can be viewed by clicking here as it is public record on the docket.

The lawsuit, filed by Pagliara Law Group, P.A. in November 2025 alleges the patron was assaulted by a Bouncer or Security Guard.

Have you been assaulted by a Bouncer or Security Guard? You Have Legal Rights

No one expects to be attacked while enjoying a night out, yet incidents involving aggressive or untrained bouncers and security personnel happen far too often. If you’ve been injured or assaulted at a bar, nightclub, or similar venue, you may have a strong legal claim for damages.

At Pagliara Law Group, we fight to hold negligent businesses accountable and protect the rights of patrons across New Jersey.

Case Example: Unprovoked Assault Outside The Shannon in Hoboken

On November 1, 2025, the patron, was a lawful and peaceful patron at The Shannon, a popular Hoboken bar. After being mistakenly identified as a troublemaker inside the club, he calmly complied with staff instructions to leave.

Even though he posed no threat, Mr. Hauser was violently assaulted on a public sidewalk by bouncers employed, supervised, and controlled by The Shannon. He was slammed against a vehicle, punched multiple times, and suffered swelling, bruising, and partial vision loss.

This was not a scuffle or a misunderstanding. It was a preventable, deliberate assault caused by the bar’s failure to properly hire, train, supervise, and control its security personnel.

Why Bars and Nightclubs Are Legally Responsible

Businesses have a non-delegable duty to maintain a safe environment for patrons. This includes:

  • Hiring qualified security personnel
  • Properly training staff in de-escalation and safe removal techniques
  • Supervising employees to prevent aggressive or unlawful behavior
  • Implementing security policies that protect patrons from foreseeable harm

When a bar fails in these duties, and a patron is assaulted, the business — along with its owners and managers — can be held liable for damages.

Legal Claims Often Asserted in Bouncer Assault Cases

In cases like Mr. Hauser’s, attorneys may pursue multiple causes of action, including:

  • Battery – intentional, harmful physical contact
  • Assault – placing a patron in fear of imminent harm
  • Negligence – failing to provide safe premises, supervise staff, and prevent foreseeable harm
  • Negligent Hiring, Retention, and Training – employing or keeping staff with known violent tendencies
  • Vicarious Liability / Respondeat Superior – holding the business accountable for the actions of employees or contractors
  • Liquor Licensee Liability – under NJ law, establishments serving alcohol can be liable for the misconduct of employees acting under their authority

Injuries and Damages

Victims of bouncer or security assaults may suffer:

  • Physical injuries (bruises, broken bones, vision loss)
  • Emotional trauma (anxiety, fear, PTSD)
  • Financial losses (medical expenses, lost wages, need for personal security)
  • Loss of enjoyment of life

Compensation may include medical costs, lost income, pain and suffering, and punitive damages to hold negligent businesses accountable.

Take Action: Protect Your Rights

If you’ve been assaulted or injured by a bar, nightclub, or security staff in New Jersey, you don’t have to face it alone. At Pagliara Law Group, we:
