Racial Profiling Lawsuit Filed Against Target in Clifton New Jersey

Today, Pagliara Law Group, P.A. filed a racial profiling lawsuit against Target in the case of Brown v. Target Corporation-Docket Number L-003847-25-in Passaic New Jersey Superior Court Law Division. The complaint filed can be viewed by clicking here as it is public record on the docket.

Plaintiff’s complaint alleges that Target engaged in defamation and unlawful public accommodation discrimination in violation of the New York State and City Human Rights Laws.

The lawsuit, filed by Pagliara Law Group, P.A. in November 2025 alleges that the plaintiff, who is African American, was racially profiled when he was was falsely accused of stealing while he was shopping at a Target retail store in Clifton, New Jersey (Passaic). The allegations of racial discrimination stemming from Plaintiff’s shopping experience at Target are incorporated with 10 causes of actions including: race and national origin in violation of the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, N.J.S.A. 10:5-1 et seq. (“LAD”), including discrimination in places of public accommodation; defamation; unlawful detention; negligent retention, training, and supervision; intrusion upon seclusion, false light and intentional infliction of emotional distress (IIED).

Hopefully this will send a clear message to New Jersey retailers that unlawful racial profiling of customers carries severe legal consequences. Pagliara Law Group, P. A. is known for taking on some of the most biggest companies and governments for civil rights violations. This comes at a time when Target faces widespread criticism for dismantling DEI programs that were intended to promote racial equity as well as other lawsuits related to race in the media
